Sleek

Sometimes there's nothing like throwing a little modern & sleek to your everyday routine to spice it up. It's easy to feel extremely fierce and stylish when you're going for a modern look, and a great way to achieve it is by choosing sleek dark pieces and modern prints. These BCBG shorts have a really cool modern take on a traditional reptile print, and the color pallet makes them ideal for daytime attire as well as for nighttime. Keeping in tune with the modern style, I went very simplistic in the accessories department, layering  a gold chain with a leather and golden accent nugget necklace and choosing a leather envelope style clutch. Sandals were the perfect way to keep the look really stylish, without making it seem overdressed  or complicated for daytime. Hope you like this look!

Let me know what you think.

Palm Trees & Parrots

There was something about this blouses' quirky print and retro feel that just caught my attention, I was kind of skeptic at first about it maybe being a bit tacky, but I decided I would give it a go. It's definitely a summer type of of top, I'm really not sure if I could see it working at any other time of the year. I decided to embrace the fun bright greens, reds and blues of the blouse by matching it with this bright orange skirt that has much statement making power as the blouse. The final touch on this rather fun look was adding the purple fringed clutch for a tropical and color filled look. Hope you like this look!

Light Scarves

Light scarves have been one of my favorite summer items, they're a great way to accessorize, adding texture, colors and prints to your look. I've opted for switching statement necklaces for scarves during summer days, they add more interest and tend to not bother as much when its warm, and you could definitely store them in your bag and not worry about them getting tangled. I like wearing a laid back style during the day, I decided to switch my denim jeans for these green ones, which went perfectly with the scarf and paired it with a really airy eyelet top. I chose the white eyelet top because it wouldn't compete with the printed scarf, but it did add texture and interest to the look. A great leather bag is always an essential item in any closet, and a bag that won't ever be out of style. Hope you like this look!

Orange Punch

I've had this skirt for the longest time, and I'm just as crazy over its tribal print as I was when I bought it. Today, I decided to go for red and oranges, but I've matched it before with white, black and red, I haven't tried it with blue or green, but those will definitely be my next styling options for this skirt. I tend to always use a solid colored top with this skirt and let the print be the statement, but I've used different style tops, like t-shirts, tanks and blouses, the skirt is super versatile so the different style tops give it a different vibe. Staying cool has been a top priority lately, and skirts are a perfect way to give shorts a break and go for something different. Do you have a piece of clothing, like my skirt you just can't let go of?  Hope you like this look!

Puff Pastry & Natilla

I've definitely been on a pastry mood lately when it comes to desserts, so here's another recipe to add to those quick and easy ones. For this recipe I used store bought puff pastry and filled them up with a very traditional Puerto Rican treat. Natilla is really similar to custard, and you can serve it alone in little ramekins or use it to fill up pastries. These sweets match perfectly with coffee for a "light" breakfast or midday snack over a conversation. Im sure that if we could actually eat a cloud it would taste exactly like these pastries, super airy and buttery texture with a really smooth and decadent center. I don't know if my subconsciousness is trying to say something related to France, but I'm truly obsessing over pastries. This is a must try recipe! Hope you do try it and enjoy it!

Filling
1/3 cup cornstarch
2 cups milk
2 egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Half a lemons' rind

Place the cornstarch in a saucepan, add a little milk and stir until the cornstarch has completely diluted into the milk.
Add the egg yolks, and stir well, then add the remaining milk and ingredients. Cook on a moderate heat (if using gas stove a 3 would be perfect), stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until it begins to curdle a little or starts to boil.
Remove from heat immediately and stir until it reaches a custard like consistency, and fill pastries or pour into little ramekins and refrigerate.

***Note: I skipped the lemon rind and instead added 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla paste.

All About The Shorts

There's nothing better than wearing easy, flowly looks during these summer days. I've worn these shorts a couple of times before, but I really keep going to them when I want to feel cool and still look stylish/polished. Shorts like these are always a great piece to have in your closet, you can switch your go-to denim shorts for them or dress them up with a great pair of sandals, and they will always up your look a couple of notches. When it comes to shorts, I'm seriously obsessed with printed ones, I just think that having a great print give them an entirely different vibe. I kept my top on a neutral shade, so the print would be the primordial aspect of the look, but the flowyness of the shirt gave a relaxed feeling to the look, and the rolled up sleeves gave it an even more casual, simple touch. I haven't been to keen on the idea of separating my new bag from my everyday life, but I'll be switching it soon. Hope you like this look!

Summer Mornings

Bright summer mornings are my favorite, specially during the weekend, their delightful warmth and freshness are contagious, and I can't help but to be inspired and dress accordingly. Stripes in color have a tendency of being joyful, something that's not necessarily transmitted when their in black and white. I definitely dressed up early in the day, when it was still cool enough to be excited to actually wear clothes, but I knew I had to choose something I could wear throughout the day. I love these  shorts with their red stripes, they're like feel good clothes, and I decided to pair them with this blouse that has an amazing delicate detailing on top. Hope you like this look!

Traveling with Style

Traveling and style don't usually mix, and even more so when your getting on a 5+ hour trip, it's only natural to value comfort over style in these circumstances. For example, choosing flats over amazing pumps, or going for slouchy pants instead of skinny ones, but the truth is, you don't really have to sacrifice style completely. Lets target pants, I don't consider skinny jeans to be the most comfortable trousers for sitting in small seats for what seems like endless hours, but I won't go for sweatpants either, the trick is to find loose fitted pants, possibly with some stretch to them and if you score them in a great bold color or print it'll be perfect. Blouses are easier to find in a comfortable fit, you can go for a great T-shirt and add a jacket or scarf to keep you warm and add even more colors and character to your look. Ballet flats are a great go to for traveling, they're super easy to take off when you have to pass by the security check points and they're also really comfortable. Lastly, be wise to take a bag that's big enough to fit everything, but that you will able to have your hands free to carry other bags. What are your travel basics? Hope you like this look!

Character

Finally, I can say that today was a cooler day, but it did have its tradeoffs, at about 7:30 AM it was already beginning to rain. Even though it was a pretty gloomy day I have to say that with this type of weather was the only way I could have pulled of a skinny jeans look. I chose this really simple blouse, which is actually a great piece for summer because of its versatility, it will look well with shorts, but it will also look great with a dressier skirt. I've learned with time that when it rains it's sometimes better to be walking in high heels because you don't get your toes or shoes wet as you would with ballet flats, so these cut out booties were the perfect selection. I love simple looks that have character, but aren't over the top and that's really the best choice for gloomy days.Hope you like this look.

Midnight Snack

I have always wanted to make homemade doughnuts, but the process of frying them always stops me from making them, so when I stumbled upon this oven baked recipe I knew I had to try it. These doughnuts were literally my midnight snack, and what helped me stay up to wright this post! They're shockingly light and airy, which makes them perfect for a quick snack, and they would be even more ideal with a delicious cup of hot chocolate (it just occurred to me). It's definitely a great healthier option for substituting doughnuts, obviously keeping in mind that they won't taste exactly like everyday doughnuts. The best part of this recipe is that you can really personalize it, you can make a glaze, dust them in confectioner sugar and cinnamon like I did, make a delicious filling or  even prepare a hazelnut dipping sauce... so decadent! I used a mini muffin pan because I didn't have a doughnut pan, but you can use either one. I still have making traditional doughnuts in my bucket list, but for now this is a great recipe. Hope you try them!

Ingredients:
5 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Lightly butter a mini muffin pan or doughnut pan and set aside.
In a medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add the egg, milk and vanilla, mix until combined. Mix in the baking powder and salt, then mix the flour just until combined. Fill mini muffin pan or doughnut pan half full. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
I combined confectioner sugar with cinnamon and rolled the doughnuts in it.

A Leopard Print Day

There are moments when just an animal print look will work, and today was definitely one of those moments. I have to admit, I used to be pretty intimated by animal print, and specifically huge amounts... aka this dress, but now I love them. This dress is the perfect match for the print because of its classy shape, it's easy to cross the tacky line with animal print, so be sure about the piece. I added the belt to help create some shape and add a casual touch. I know how difficult it is to dress really chic and pretty when you're just about to melt, but having pieces like this dress will be your lifesavers for those super extreme hot days! Hope you like this look!

Sunday Stripes

Ah... forever in love with maxi dresses! Sunday's are really all about relaxing, from our activities to even what we wear, well not always, but sometimes! As I've mentioned before stripes just like black and white are a yearlong go to in my book. Today I went for a really easy going look, and this maxi dress was key in achieving it. I kept everything else pretty simple, choosing this crossbody pouch style bag and opting for flats instead of heals or wedges. It was the perfect look for walking around and enjoying a great brunch in a really sunny morning. Maxi dresses are an essential item for beating the summer warmth while still looking great, and the best part is that most of them come in either great prints or bright colors, so you'll never skip the style factor. Hope you had a lovely Sunday!
